Who
we are
Canberra Fisherman's
Club Inc. is a local sport fishing club catering for the needs of the
ACT's competitive and social anglers alike. Copies of our current By-Laws
and Constitution provide more details on our rules and regulations (see
links below).
Through our affiliation
with the Australian National Sportfishing Association
(ANSA), our members are entitled
to fish for State, National and International Records, attain Master
Angler Awards and compete in ANSA Conventions.
Not everyone takes
their fishing that seriously though! We don't mind if you're a competitive
or social angler, we hope to cater for everyone.

Meetings
& Outings
CFC holds general
meetings on the second Tuesday of the month at Eastlakes
Football Club, 3 Oxley St, Griffith, commencing
at 7:30pm. Visitors and guests are most welcome to
attend. A few times a year, we arrange guest speakers or special events
for meetings, otherwise they involve
outing planning, discussions about what has been biting and where, providing
updates on fishing rules, upcoming events and activities. They conclude
with a raffle to raise money for our various activities and events.
Twelve club
outings are held each year. The dates and locations are decided
by members. We try and schedule outings to coincide with long weekends,
ANSA Conventions or other events which may interest members so that
they can make the most of their fishing time. We aim to provide a balance
of freshwater (both trout and natives) and saltwater outings to cater
for everyone's tastes.
Our monthly outings
are targeted at the more social side of fishing, with members often
sharing accommodation and teaming up to help each other find fish. Whether
freshwater or salt, land based or on a boat, there's usually someone
to share a day's fishing with. Fish caught throughout the year are eligible
for our annual awards, allowing those with a competitive bent to fish
when it suits them most.
Other
Activities
The highlight of
the CFC calendar is our annual Burrinjuck ANSA Convention,
now in its 36th year. Held on the first weekend in November each year,
our Convention attracts upwards of 200 anglers from all over NSW who
compete in both ANSA and non-ANSA categories. The Convention counts
towards the annual ANSA Convention Circuit as well.
CFC holds an annual
Carpathon in January, which is a social outing for members
and visitors. We put on a BBQ and present trophies at the end of the
day. This is great event for kids and parents.
Our annual Presentation
Dinner (usually held in September) and our Kids Christmas
Party are two more non-fishing events targeted at the whole
family. Other activities are arranged at the suggestion of members.
We have also been
involved in running Kids Fishing Clinics to help introduce
juniors to fishing. So far, close to 100 kids have attended. These free
Clinics have been funded through the Australian Government's Recreational
Fishing Community Grants Programme (RFCGP).
Through the RFCGP,
CFC has also stocked 50,000 fish into Canberra's lakes over the last
2 years. While the RFCGP has finished, we are looking at ways to raise
funds to continue our fish stocking activities. Donations
can be made at Tackle World Canberra, or by contacting the Club.
In March 2008,
we held our inaugural Canberra Carp-Out, which attracted
over 1,400 entries. A major mystery prize of $5,000 donated by Tackleworld
Canberra was certainly a great drawcard! This event would also not have
been possible without the support of the RFCGP, WIN Television, Capital
Chemists and Longpark Meats. Thanks one and all! We have held this event each year since and it is growing each year.
Our 2010
Carp-Out was held on Sunday, 14th March.
Check out the Carp-Out Website
for more info.
All our outings
and events can be found on the Calendar page. Where available, links
to entry forms and further information is provided.
