Well, what a great year it's been! The books have now closed on the 2018-19 Club Championship and trophies are being prepared for Presentation Night. There have been some truly spectacular captures contributing to members' scores ... and some truly spectacular failures vying for this year's joke trophies. Make sure you reserve the 14th September 2019 in your diary for the annual Presentation Night – it will be a great opportunity to show our respect for the achievements of the winners and have a heap of fun remembering what members did to win the joke trophies.

This month's report is very difficult to write. As most of you would be aware, long-time Canberra Fisherman's Club member, Keith Smith, died suddenly last Friday, the 3rd May. As we all know, Keith has been a fixture of the Club for about 25 years and a keen attendee at our monthly meetings and fishing outings. His name is still on the attendance list for our next outing! Keith had a gift for livening up the conversation, and will be sorely missed.

What a fantastic month - Canberra Fisherman's Club had a strong showing at the Narooma Convention, held on the Canberra Day long weekend. Anthony Heiser and Steve Bailey did all the heavy lifting, with great results in the Beach and Estuary sections. As always, it was a great location and we all had an awesome time – I'm already looking forward to returning next year! Check out Anthony's great article.

What a great Summer that turned out to be.

• We started Summer with the Cod-opening friendly competition with our mates from Morven-Culcairn. A great turn-out for the Canberra Fisherman's Club and a nice win in challenging conditions.
• Our annual early January Carpathon at Lake Burley Griffin saw heaps of our Facebook friends join us for a few hours of enjoyable fishing. The Carp averaging about 60cm each and kept biting throughout the day (including while we were presenting the day's awards!).
• Our traditional Australia Day weekend trip to Tuross saw us talking tactics at the Saturday night barbeque with fishing celebs Steve and Jo Starling – and us catching some nice flathead and trevally, despite the holiday crowds.

The first Club outing for 2019 was the Carpathon at Lake Burley Griffin. Numbers were well up on previous years, with almost 20 Facebook friends of the Club joining us on the day. While there weren't great numbers of carp caught, they were all around the 60cm mark and put up a great fight. The winning team was a group of visitors (the Willey, Connors and Portelli team) with 9 carp. It was a great day, with the CFC ladies flying the flag for us – Karen Malam took out the ladies section with a 59cm carp and Maharlia Borman took out the junior girls section with a 61cm carp. A big thanks to all that came – I'm already looking forward to next year's Carpathon.

Firstly, a BIG congratulations to the Burrinjuck Chairperson (Sarah Borman) and all the members that helped out at the 44th annual Burrinjuck Convention. As usual, the Club really banded together and things again ran very smoothly — it was a great event, there was a great atmosphere and the Canberra Fisherman's club has a lot to be proud of – thank you all!
